Rent Increase Moratorium Extended
Dear Caltrans Tenants of the 710 Corridor:
As there are many concerns and issues that have come forward recently regarding the Caltrans Tenants, we have been very busy working on your behalf. This last week we met with Senator David Roberti, Suzanne Reed, Chief of Staff for Assemblymember Carol Liu, and Mayor Bill Bogaard, City of Pasadena.
We will report back to you when definitive answers are known to our many questions.
Tenants have received the following letter from Caltrans that is of significant importance. This letter means that NO ONE should have ANY rent increases at least until June 30, 2003. The moratorium, originally negotiated on our behalf by Assemblymember Liu, was only through December of 2002. This letter officially extends the moratorium at least through June 30, 2003.

(Department of Transportation letterhead)
February 11, 2002
Dear Tenant:
The California Department of Transportation (Department) has extended the rent increase moratorium on all residential properties within the 710 corridor. The moratorium will allow the Department time to study and reformulate our rental increase policy to one that best meets the needs of both tenants and the Department. The moratorium is expected to continue for the remainder of the fiscal year, June 30, 2003, at which time, the recommendations of the taskforce will be available for the Department's review.
We will notify you of the task force results and the Department's final decision regarding the rental rate increase policy.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Jimmy S. Liu
